Position: Laundry Worker
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Provide laundry service for all athletic programs, school nutrition facilities, campus nursing clinics and physical education programs in the district.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
- GED/High School Diploma (preferred)
- Valid Texas Drivers’ license; insurable by district’s insurance carrier.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Ability to follow instructions
- Knowledge of the theory and operation of major heavy commercial laundry equipment
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards of the laundry equipment and the necessary safety precautions
- Ability to read and comprehend laundry equipment manuals
- Ability to diagnose and repair laundry system malfunctions
- Ability to perform maintenance on laundry equipment
- Ability to organize work to be completed in a timely manner
Experience:
- One year of experience in laundry related environment preferred
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Responsible for collecting, cleaning and delivering laundry throughout the district on a daily basis.
- Responsible for cooperatively following directions and/or instructions from the supervisor of maintenance.
- Plan and organize work in advance for overall efficiency in the total laundry operation.
- Meet emergencies with poise and self-confidence.
- Follow sanitation guidelines.
- Perform light repairs and preventative maintenance on laundry equipment.
- Ensure district compliance with all regulatory agency requirements according to assignment.
- Maintain a clean, safe and well-organized work environment.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the supervisor of maintenance.
- Observe and inform supervisor of safety hazards.

Tools/Equipment Used: Commercial washing machines and dryers; one-ton utility vehicle
Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping,
Motion: Constant walking, standing, climbing, constant stooping, kneeling and bending, pushing/pulling, and twisting
Lifting: heavy lifting and carrying; ability to lift and carry fifty (50) pounds without assistance
Environment: Works outside and inside; works around machines with moving parts; works around moving objects or vehicles; exposure to dampness, humidity, toxic chemicals, airborne dust and electrical shock; slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent district wide travel
Mental Demands: Reading; ability to understand verbal instructions
Other Information
The district contributes $400/monthly to the cost of "employee-only" health insurance which is $175/monthly greater than the state required amount of $225/monthly.
