Position: General Maintenance and Signage Technician
Effective immediately; Open Until Filled
Primary Purpose:
Responsible for general maintenance, inspecting playgrounds, flagpoles, roll up doors, and bleachers. Additionally, designing and constructing cabinets to meet educational and/or administrator requirements. Responsible for designing, planning, construction, installation, and repair of all phases of exterior structural and interior building systems.
Education/Certification:
- GED/High School Diploma, preferred
- Valid Texas Driver’s License; must be insurable by district's insurance carrier
- Completion of apprenticeship or completion of technical school, preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Ability to read and comprehend design drawings
- Ability to operate all types of woodworking machinery
- Ability to operate all types of metal welding and burning tools and equipment, preferred
- Ability to transform plans into a completed product
- Knowledge of design, construction and repair of carpentry related work assignments
Experience:
- Preferred experience in a carpentry/sign related work environment
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Install flooring, ceiling and other coverings using gypsum board, paneling, fiberboard and acoustical tile and other similar materials districtwide.
- Install glass in sashes and doors.
- Construct and install forms on small scale for construction such as concrete
- Install anchors, reinforcement steel and lintels (such as bare, stirrups and wire mesh).
- Place concrete in forms.
- Maintain carpentry districtwide.
- Installs, removes and replaces district signs as needed.
- Install, repair, replace and adjust items of building hardware such as hinges, hasps, locks, hydraulic door openers and
- Repair and replace floor tile, carpet base and ceramic tile.
- Maintain and repair existing structures as assigned.
- Maintain playground equipment and motorized bleachers.
- Design, fabricate and install all forms of cabinets districtwide.
- Select, order and monitor all shipments of building materials.
- Design, plan, construct, install and/or repair all district exterior structural and interior building systems assignments involving carpentry and iron/metal works.
- Maintain a clean, safe and well-organized environment.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the General Maintenance Foreman and supervisor of Support Services.

Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
Motion: Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving
Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis
Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent districtwide travel
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress, ability to communicate effectively
Other Information:
The district contributes $400/monthly to the cost of "employee-only" health insurance which is $175/monthly greater than the state required amount of $225/monthly.
