Description

Position:  Senior Electrician

 

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

 

Assist in the design, planning, installation and repair of all phases of district wide electrical systems and equipment. Assist in the replacement, repair and preventative maintenance of all phases of electrical equipment.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education/Certification:

 

• GED/High School Diploma (preferred)

• Valid Texas Drivers License; insurable by district’s insurance carrier

• Completion of apprenticeship or technical school

• Journeyman electrician’s license preferred

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and construction plans

• Ability to operate all types of electrical equipment

• Knowledge of the occupational hazards of the electrical trade and the necessary safety precautions

• Ability to transform plans into a completed product

• Ability to diagnose and repair electrical system malfunctions

 

Experience:

• Four years experience as a practicing electrician

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

 

1. Maintain, repair or replace low voltage electrical systems.

2. Maintain, repair or replace secondary voltage electrical systems.

3. Maintain, repair or replace electrical transformers, motors and equipment.

4. Maintain, repair or replace kitchen lighting and line voltage to kitchen equipment.

5. Maintain a clean, safe and well-organized work environment.

6. Ensure district compliance with all regulatory agency requirements involving electrical activities. 

7. Perform all other duties as assigned by the Electrical Supervisor and/or Director of Maintenance

8. Maintain and repair major classroom shop equipment.

9. Maintain and complete preventative maintenance on district air compressors.

MENTAL DEMANDS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:
Tools/Equipment Used: Operates and utilizes all types of electrical and diagnostic equipment and variety of hand and power tools. Operates a boom and bucket vehicle and compressed air scaffolding.


Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping


Motion: Constant walking, standing, and climbing; constant stooping, bending and kneeling, and using hands constantly


Lifting: Ability to lift and carry fifty (50) pounds without assistance; heavy lifting and carrying


Environment: Works outside and inside; works around machines with moving parts; works on ladders and/or scaffolding, exposure to electrical shock, gas, sewage dampness, humidity, toxic chemicals; explosive environments and airborne dusts; slippery or uneven walking surfaces; exposure to extreme temperatures and other irritants; frequent district wide travel


Mental Demands: Reading; ability to understand verbal instructions; ability to communicate effectively (verbal)

The district contributes $400/monthly to the cost of "employee-only" health insurance which is $175/monthly greater than the state required amount of $225/monthly.

 

Salary Information: 12 Months, 250 Duty Days, Manual Trades Pay Grade 6 (Based on approved 2022-2023 Compensation Plan)
