Elementary School Principal 

  

Primary Purpose 

 

Direct and manage overall campus operations. Responsible for leadership of the campus instructional program, ensuring high standards of instruction and student achievement, compliance with district policies, application of instructional programs, providing a safe learning environment and effective operation of all campus activities. Serve as instructional leader, communicator of high expectations to students, staff and parents for student achievement, positive student behavior and collegial school climate.

 

Job Qualifications

  • Master's Degree from an accredited college or university
  • Valid Texas teacher certification
  • Valid Texas principal certification
  • AEL or ILD/ILT certification  
  • Certified Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS) appraiser or willing to obtain

Special Knowledge and Skills

  • Excellent communication, public relations and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Thorough understanding of school operations
  • Working knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to evaluate instructional program and teaching effectiveness
  • Ability to manage budget and personnel
  • Ability to implement policy and procedures
  • Ability to interpret data
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred

Experience

  • Minimum of three (3) years of successful classroom teaching experience
  • Minimum of three (3) years of instructional leadership roles
  • Principal experience preferred

Mental Demands 

Effective communication; ability to maintain emotional control under stress; ability to work with frequent interruptions

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors

Occasional district-wide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours. May include work inside and outside (exposure to the sun, heat, cold and inclement weather) and possibly from home or location other than school building; internet access, phone; prolonged sitting and standing; repetitive computer work with frequent use of hands and wrists.

La Porte ISD contributes $400/monthly to employee only health insurance, which is $175/monthly greater than the state-required minimum contribution of $225/monthly.
