Position: STEM Facilitator, Grades PK-5

 

Collaborate with the curriculum and instruction department and district leaders to provide leadership for and coordinate the district STEM program and initiatives. Collaborate with science, math, technology and district staff to develop, promote, implement, and evaluate STEM program and initiatives. Engage students, district staff and the community in meaningful STEM activities. Provide curriculum, staff development and course material selection guidance for STEM lab experiences on all elementary campuses.

 

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
  • Master’s degree in education or subject-related field preferred
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject/ grade level assigned
  • Five years of teaching experience

 Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Ability to design and lead the development of an effective, integrated curriculum and STEM Lab experience for all elementary students
  • Expertise in the understanding of the science TEKS, with a focus on designing effective curriculum and assessments that directly align with those standards
  • Expertise in the design and facilitation of integrated learning models and differentiated, student-centered curriculum
  • Ability to integrate 21st Century skills and technology into student learning experiences
  • Ability to successfully provide instructional leadership, organization, communication and management of the district STEM initiatives and programs
  • Track student achievement in STEM learning through aligned assessments, careful data collections, and analysis of results
  • Highly proficient in verbal and written language
  • Highly effective interpersonal and collaborative skills for creating and adding value in a high stake, fast-paced environment

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

 

Program Management

  • Provide leadership and vision district-wide for PK-5 STEM instructional, curricular, and professional development initiatives.
  • Administer assigned budgets and ensure that programs are cost effective and funds are managed prudently.
  • Understand district needs and goals pertaining to curriculum, instruction, training and resources and current national research on STEM and STEM-related programs/initiatives.
  • Analyze and use data to identify needs and to evaluate, improve, and report on program effectiveness.

Curriculum and Instruction

  • Plan, organize, and deliver STEM Lab Experiences on each campus in designated grades at least four (4) times per year in collaboration with grade-level teams and curriculum teams.
  • Provide leadership in writing curriculum for STEM Lab Experiences in grades PK-5 and within Makerspace experiences.
  • Collaborate with teachers, instructional coaches to embed STEM Experiences in current units and align to relevant TEKS in content areas.
  • Proficiently use and implement a range of effective strategies and analyze instruction.
  • Collaborate with special education teachers and leaders to modify STEM Lab curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established by Individual Education Plans (IEP).

Assessment

  • Develop and implement vertically aligned evaluation system to measure student development of the 21st Century skills of communication, collaboration, creativity and critical thinking as part of STEM Lab learning.
  • Administer and interpret evaluation data to determine adequate progress.
  • Conduct regular evaluation of STEM Program implementation to determine overall effectiveness and adjust based on needs.

Communication

  • Develop, coordinate, and oversee district events to promote STEM Learning aligned to district goals and initiatives.
  • Establish strong working relationships with district staff, parents and the community.
  • Effectively communicate the goals, plans, and progress of the district STEM program and promote STEM activities to staff, parents and community.
  • Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.

Professional Growth and Development

  • Prepare and present professional learning for teachers in STEM learning best practices.
  • Model STEM Lab lessons for all teachers on campuses during Lab Experiences and as requested by campus teams.
  • Plan and implement a comprehensive professional learning plan for furthering STEM Learning and STEM Education in elementary grades in collaboration with district leadership.

Policy Implementation

  • Know and comply with state, district and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Compile, maintain and file all reports, records and other documents required.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.

Tools/Equipment Used: Computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment, teacher resource materials

 

Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

 

Motion: Repetitive hand motions, frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching; frequent sitting, standing, walking, climbing, and balancing

 

Lifting: Occasional lift and carry, moderate 15-44 pounds; may lift and move textbooks and classroom equipment

 

Environment: Frequent districtwide travel; occasional statewide travel; work inside, may work outside; regular exposure to noise; occasional exposure to: biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc.

           

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written), maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours

The District contributes $400/month to the cost of employee only health insurance, which is $175/month greater than the state required amount of $225/month.

 

Salary:                                  

  • $60,481 starting salary; based on the LPISD Compensation Plan for 11 Duty Months (195 Days) 
  • Salary commensurate with years of experience  
  • $1,000 Master's Degree addenda
  • Additional $1,000 Doctorate Degree addenda 

Pay Grade: Certified Instructional, 11 Duty Months
