Grant Accountant
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Responsible for assisting with maintaining the District's general ledger. Responsible for assisting with reviewing, reconciling, and reporting of general ledger accounts for all funds in the District. Provide support, individually and collectively to all department and campuses with District accounting policies and procedures. Assist with the establishment and documentation of business policies and procedures. Works closely with Federal Programs and Special Education departments in processing state and federal grant awards and reports.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor Degree in Accounting or business-related field with minimum of 24 hours in accounting
Certified Public Accountant or TASBO certification preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Proficiency in computer data entry, including working knowledge of spreadsheet and word processing
Demonstrate skills in accounting, financial reporting, budgeting and accounting software programs
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Minimum Experience:
Public accounting or related experience with a school district preferred
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Fiscal Management
- Perform general accounting, maintain records, and maintain general ledger and other related duties on a daily basis.
- Work with special revenue budget mangers on reporting and compliance of special revenue funds.
- Prepare and/or review entries as required to cash adjustments and corrections of accounts coded in error, prepare entries as needed to keep the general ledger accurate and current in compliance with District accounting policies and procedures
- Maintain accounting records in accordance with TEA regulations
- Review and update to the general ledger
- Assist director of finance and chief financial officer as requested
- Calculate and report expenditure reimbursements for state and federal grants, assist in monitoring and reporting for federal, state, and local grant funds
- Provide information as required to facilitate the annual school district audit
- Reconcile general ledger accounts monthly to include all funds/accounts as assigned
- Reconcile bank and investment accounts, work with bank officials to make inquires and resolve discrepancies in account records
- Work with the director of finance and the chief financial officer in providing technical support to Budget Managers and their staff in preparation of their budgets
- Work with other school employees who need assistance with accounting and financial transactions relating to the District
- Assist in developing and implementing district finance policies and procedures
- Develop professional skills appropriate to job assignment
- Perform other duties as assigned
Policy and Law
- Keep informed of and comply with all state and district regulations and policies concerning public education business administration
- Observe professional and ethical standards of behavior in accordance with Texas Education Agency code of ethics
- Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required
- Work with Special Programs Department to prepare and file quarterly Medicaid Administrative Claims (MAC) and annual School Health and Related Services (SHARS) filings
- Prepare and file quarterly sales and use taxes with Texas State Comptroller’s Office
- Prepare and file annual unclaimed property reports with Texas State Comptroller’s Office
Community Relations
- Articulate the District's mission to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission
- Demonstrate awareness of District/Community needs and initiate activities to meet those identified needs

Physical District-wide and occasional state-wide travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours.
Salary:
Professional Pay Grade 2 - 12 Months
Minimum = $61,636/Annual
Midpoint = $77,048/Annual
Maximum = $92,459/Annual

The district contributes $400/monthly to the cost of "employee-only" health insurance which is $145/monthly greater than the state required amount of $225/monthly. |
