Position: Transportation Dispatch/Router/Student Badges

Location:  Support Services Center

 

PRIMARY PURPOSE: Schedules and dispatches bus drivers and monitors assigned to transporting students on regular and special education routes; establish, coordinate and maintain routing of student transportation district-wide.   

 

Education/Certification:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Must be 18 years of age

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

 

• Use of modern office methods and practices
• Ability to read and understand documents including policies and procedures manuals
• Ability to receive and give written and verbal instructions
• Ability to pass alcohol and drug tests and annual physical exam
• Effective organizational and communication skills

 

Experience:

• Experience as certified school bus driver preferred
• Secretarial experience preferably in a public education

 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

 

Routing

1. Create, develop and maintain bus routes and student data in the Versatrans Routing and Planning (RP) program.


2. Monitor, update and ensure the accuracy of all system data in accordance with Texas Education Agency guidelines. Inform appropriate departments and personnel of any problems and/or changes.


3. Work with bus drivers, bus monitors, transportation office staff, school campus personnel and parents to ensure the safety and accuracy all route data (hardcopy and electronic tablets).


4. Plan, schedule and assign bus driver and bus monitor personnel for all routes. Coordinate with shop supervisor regarding school bus assignments.


5. Create and manage tutorial routes, overflow and as needed.


6. Update and maintain RP map, building and street assignments.


7. Reconcile all "Unfulfilled Request" within the RP database as needed.

 

8. Reconcile all "School Interoperability Framework" SIF records within the RP database as needed.


9. Update and maintain Predator database with the RP database as needed.


10. Perform annual Grade Advancement with RP and provide reports as needed.

 

Student Badges and Tablets

11. Print and program first run of student badges yearly.


12. Reconcile all student badge issues for both campus and support services.


13. Schedule training with campuses for new student badges.


14. Maintain stock and support campuses and support services' badge printer and supplies.


15. Assist drivers with tablets and scanners for student badge system


16. Maintain tablets to make sure they are updated and in working condition.

 

Dispatching

17. Dispatch drivers and monitors in accordance with established bus routes and special education requests.


18. Perform radio communications with all bus drivers and campus personnel to ensure the efficiency and safety of all transportation services.


19. Maintain and communicate a bus lineup at campuses as needed.


20. Receive and place telephone calls from, to and on behalf of transportation staff, drivers, campus staff and parents; Initiates action as appropriate.


21. Receives communications reporting incidents and situations of an emergency nature and directs necessary services. Evaluates the nature of reports and take action as appropriate.


22. Creates and maintains accurate and detailed radio logs, incidents and accidents as they occur.


23. Disseminates general information to the public and other concerned parties regarding department policies, procedures and applicable federal, state and local laws.


24. Perform telephone and email communications with transportation supervisors and campus administration.


25. Comply with all federal, state and local laws pertaining to transportation services.

 

Clerical Support

*These duties will be on a back role when needed.

26. Assist with CDL permits and licensing records for bus drivers and white fleet.


27. Assist with driving record Verification.


28. Assist annual in-service requirements.


29. Assist with School Messenger communications for transportation.


30. Assist with daily transportation website updates.


31. Assist with Transportation Payroll reconciliation.


32. Other duties as assigned.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities: 

None

 

Equipment Used:

Radio communication equipment, computer and peripherals.

 

Working Conditions

 

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employees are subject to constant interruption and are in direct contact with the public, students and employees. Interactions with these contacts may result in hectic situations. This position may be high volume at times and work without direct and/or constant supervision.

 

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

The physical demands of this position include the ability to sit for extended periods. This position requires some walking and standing as well as bending and reaching at, below and above shoulder level. Lifting, pushing or pulling of objects generally do not exceeding 20 pounds. Repetitive use of fingers and hands to operate a keyboard and other office equipment is necessary, as is hearing and speaking ability sufficient to provide information via the telephone, two-way radio and personal contact.

The district contributes $400/monthly to the cost of "employee-only" health insurance which is $175/monthly greater than the state required amount of $225/monthly.
