*Please note: This position will begin in January 2021.

 

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

 

Provides coaching and support to classroom teachers to ensure the continuous development of instructional skills among assigned teachers. The ELA Instructional Coach, Grades 9-12, is responsible for working closely with teachers and administrators of the two high school campuses, to ensure the reading and writing performance of struggling students across all content areas.  The ELA Instructional Coach will provide high-level literacy support for members of the school community that is consistent with and fulfills the requirements of the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR).   

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education/Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject/grade level assigned

Experience

  • Five years of teaching experience in secondary ELA preferred
  • Internal candidates preferred

Special Knowledge and Skills

  • Deep understanding of evidence-based practices for teaching reading and assessing student progress 
  • Knowledge of research-based strategies in reading and writing in the content areas
  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Knowledge of literacy TEKS and STAAR
  • Provide resources and training to campus staff on evidence-based practices for teaching literacy
  • Gather and assist in analyzing data and write reports related to literacy
  • Create an atmosphere of trust and collaboration among staff to promote professional growth and accelerate the reading achievement of struggling readers

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

 

Curriculum and Instruction

  • Use technologies in the teaching/learning process
  • Assist teachers with the use appropriate core and supplemental intervention materials that align with district and state curriculum
  • Know how to use and implement a range of effective strategies, and analyze instruction

  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established by Individual Education Plans (IEP)

  • Assist teachers with the selection of books, and other instructional materials to meet individual literacy needs.

  • Attend and assist with Student Success Team (SST) as needed

  • Gather and assist in analyzing data and writing literacy reports

  • Spend 80% of time coaching teachers who work with struggling readers

  • Serve on the campus leadership team

Assessment

  • Interpret student data to determine adequate progress, and make recommendations for supplemental or intensive intervention

  • Become familiar with the administration and interpretation of in-depth diagnostic measures or additional assessments commonly used in the school

Communication

  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents
  • Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents and community members
  • Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly

Professional Growth and Development

  • Participate in the district staff development program
  • Demonstrate interest and initiative in professional improvement
  • Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical and responsible

Policy Implementation

  • Keep information of and comply with state, district and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers
  • Compile, maintain and file all reports, records and other documents required
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required

The District contributes $370/month to the cost of employee only health insurance, which is $145/month greater than the state required amount of $225/month

Salary                                 

  • $58,604 for Beginning teacher with "0" years experience, based on 2020-2021 Compensation Plan and 11-Duty Months
  • Salary based on experience
  • $1,000 Master's Degree addenda
  • Additional $1,000 Doctorate Degree addenda
