PRIMARY PURPOSE:

 

Provides coaching and support to classroom teachers to ensure the continuous development of instructional skills among assigned teachers. The Mathematics Instructional Coach, Grades 9-12, is responsible for working closely with teachers and administrators of the two high school campuses, to ensure the mathematics performance of struggling students. The Mathematics Instructional Coach will work in classrooms on a daily basis coaching, mentoring and modeling exemplary lessons for teachers who teach math in grades 9-12, assuring that standards and benchmarks are being effectively taught and are consistent with and fulfill the requirements of the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR).

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education/Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject/grade level assigned

Experience

  • Five years of teaching experience in high school mathematics preferred
  • Internal candidates preferred

Special Knowledge and Skills

  • Deep understanding of evidence-based practices for teaching mathematics and assessing student progress 
  • Knowledge of research-based strategies in secondary mathematics
  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Knowledge of mathematics TEKS and STAAR
  • Provide resources and training to campus staff on evidence-based practices for teaching mathematics
  • Gather and assist in analyzing data and write reports related to mathematics
  • Create an atmosphere of trust and collaboration among staff to promote professional growth and accelerate the mathematic achievement of struggling students

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

 

Curriculum and Instruction

  • Use technologies in the teaching/learning process
  • Assist teachers with the use appropriate core and supplemental intervention materials that align with district and state curriculum
  • Know how to use and implement a range of effective strategies, and analyze instruction

  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established by Individual Education Plans (IEP)

  • Assist teachers with the selection of instructional materials to meet individual needs

  • Attend and assist with Student Success Team (SST) as needed

  • Gather and assist in analyzing data and writing reports

  • Spend 80% of time coaching teachers who work with struggling math students

  • Serve on the campus leadership team

Assessment

  • Interpret assessment data to determine adequate progress, and make recommendations for supplemental or intensive intervention

  • Become familiar with the administration and interpretation of in-depth diagnostic measures or additional assessments commonly used in the school

Communication

  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents
  • Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents and community members
  • Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly

Professional Growth and Development

  • Participate in the district staff development program
  • Demonstrate interest and initiative in professional improvement
  • Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical and responsible

Policy Implementation

  • Keep information of and comply with state, district and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers
  • Compile, maintain and file all reports, records and other documents required
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required

The District contributes $370/month to the cost of employee only health insurance, which is $145/month greater than the state required amount of $225/month

  • $58,604 for Beginning teacher with "0" years experience, based on 2020-2021 Compensation Plan and 11-Duty Months
