PRIMARY PURPOSE: 

 

Responsible for the overall management of the Technology Department and strategic planning for technology systems districtwide. Provide overall leadership and coordination of technology services to efficiently implement the district goals. Provide expertise and direction in the development, deployment, and use of information technology in the district.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Master’s Degree preferred
  • Valid Texas teaching and administrator certificate preferred

Experience:

  • Five years of successful management experience in technology operations/information systems or supervisory experience in a school environment preferred.

Special Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of computer network, hardware, and software applications
  • Ability to manage budget and personnel
  • Ability to implement policy and procedures
  • Working knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectiveness
  • Ability to coordinate district functions

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

 

Technology and Instructional Management

  • Facilitate the use of technology to support learning in all District classrooms.
  • Develop, implement, and enhance the district technology plan with an emphasis on technology integration in teaching and learning.
  • Coordinate the collaborative development, refinement, and execution of a technology plan to help meet the District’s goals and objectives and collaborate with district and campus leaders to make informed decisions.
  • Develop, implement, and manage District standards and specifications for hardware, software, and systems use.

School/Organizational Climate

  • Coordinate support for district staff, including programming, application support and end-user support.
  • Employ effective organization, communication and interpersonal skills.

School/Organization Improvement

  • Direct the continuing development of efficient operating systems, procedures and programs to obtain production results from computer systems.
  • Contribute to the recommendation of sound policies directed toward program improvement.
  • Provide leadership for developing and implementing digital innovation initiatives for meaningful, effective, and secure uses of technology.

Personnel Management

  • Prepare, review and revise job descriptions within the department.
  • Develop training options and/or improvement plans to ensure the best operation of the technology department.
  • Evaluate job performance of employees to ensure effectiveness.
  • Make sound recommendations relative to personnel placement, transfer, retention and dismissal.

Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management

  • Oversee the efficient and effective maintenance of all technology equipment in the district.
  • Develop, implement, and regularly update the district’s cybersecurity plan based on best practices.
  • Ensure that programs are cost effective, and funds are managed prudently.
  • Compile budgets and cost estimates based upon documented program needs.
  • Implement the policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule and local board policy in the area of technology.

  • Compile, maintain and file all reports, records and other documents as required.

  • Plan and conduct needs assessments for growth and improvement of district technology.

  • Ensure that computer systems and applications are maintained and upgraded as necessary.

  • Design and provide technology services to district personnel.

  • Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical and responsible and serve as a role model for all district staff.

School and Community Relations

  • Articulate the district’s mission to the community in the area of technology services and solicit its support in realizing the mission.
  • Demonstrate awareness of district-community needs and initiate activities to meet those identified needs.

  • Demonstrate the use of appropriate and effective techniques for community and parent involvement.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise and evaluate the performance of the assigned personnel.

Salary:                   

Minimum    $87,901
Midpoint     $105,903
Maximum   $123,905

 

Pay Grade:  Technology Pay Grade 6, 12-Duty Months

Other Information:

La Porte ISD contributes $400/monthly to employee only health insurance, which is $175/monthly greater than the state-required minimum contribution of $225/monthly.

  • Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including personal computer and peripherals
  • Posture: Frequent sitting and standing; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
  • Motion: Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching
  • Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)
  • Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Frequent prolonged and irregular hours; work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather), exposure to noise; occasional districtwide and statewide travel;prolonged sitting and standing
  • Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); coordinate district support functions; maintain emotional control under stress
