Position: Transportation Dispatcher

Location:  Support Services Center

 

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Communicate effectively with transportation, school district, and community members through use of multi-line telephone, face-to-face, and two-way radios.  

 

Education/Certification:

 

  • High School Diploma or GED, required
  • CDL, not required                                                                                                                                             
  • TAPT Specialist Certification, preferred
  • Must be at least 18 years of age

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Applications and applicable transportation software
  • Excellent organizational, communication, team, multi-tasking, and interpersonal skills
  • Effective telephone skills
  • Bilingual – Spanish, preferred

Experience:

  • Transportation experience, preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties: 

  1. Communicate effectively with transportation staff, parents, students and school district staff members
  2. Use transportation software to communicate with staff and community members
  3. Notify drivers, parents and school personnel of any changes in a student’s bus service, such as an address change, change in pick-up and drop-off location, change in time of bus pick-up/drop-off.
  4. Answer phones and transfers caller to appropriate staff member.
  5. Contact emergency personnel when warranted and advise drivers in emergency situations.
  6. Assist field trip supervisor with assigning buses to drivers and coaches.
  7. Assist trip drivers with trip tickets and bus keys.
  8. Prepare various reports as required by the state, district or department.
  9. Maintain confidentiality of all records.
  10. Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the supervisors or director of transportation.

 

MENTAL DEMANDS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:

 

Tools/Equipment Used: Radio communication equipment, computer and peripherals.

Posture: Sitting for extended periods, repetitive use of fingers and hands to operate a keyboard and other office equipment as necessary

Motion: Frequent sitting, walking bending, kneeling, pushing and pulling.

Lifting: Moderate lifting and carrying of 50 pounds or greater

Environment: Work outside and inside with minimal exposure to extreme temperatures and vehicle fumes; work around vehicles and machinery with moving parts.

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress, occasional prolonged and irregular hours and occasional out of district travel.  Must be available for night and weekend shifts, as needed.

Other Information: 

 The district contributes $400/monthly to the cost of "employee-only" health insurance which is $175/monthly greater than the state required amount of $225/monthly.

 

Pay Grade: Manual Trades, Pay Grade 1, 210 Days

 

Minimum:     $10.97/hourly; $18,430/annually

Midpoint:      $13.21/hourly; $22193/annually

Maximum:    $15.45;  $25,956/annually
