PRIMARY PURPOSE:

 

To facilitate student academics through direct coaching, consultation and providing professional development to teachers of students that receive special education services. Actively engage in actions that contribute to the overall mission of La Porte ISD.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education/Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
  • Valid Texas Special Education certification

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years successful teaching experience in special education 

Special Knowledge and Skills

  • Positive and productive communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of the TEKS 
  • Knowledge of general education curriculum and instruction
  • Knowledge of Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) committee process and Individual Education Plans (IEPs) goal setting and implementation
  • Ability to incorporate behavior principles in positive, proactive, and instructional ways
  • Demonstrated expertise in the following areas:
    1. Specially designed instruction
    2. Standards-based instruction
    3. Instructional strategies and best practices
    4. Effective instruction for diverse learners
    5. Data interpretation
    6. Professional learning creation and delivery

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

    1. Provide consultation to district resource and inclusion classes.
    2. Provide consultation to campus staff working with students with disabilities.
    3. Develop and provide professional learning for campus staff.
    4. Assist in development of IEPs.
    5. Provide demonstration lessons and modeling of individual instruction in the special education and general education classroom.
    6. Provide consultation in ARDs as assigned by ESC staff.
    7. Design and develop appropriate adapted materials.
    8. Maintain a log of activities.
    9. Provide training to campus staff on specially designed instruction.
    10. Provide instructional support for teachers.
    11. Assist campus staff with STAAR recommendations.
    12. Uphold and adhere to federal and state guidelines, school board policies, and district administration procedures.
    13. Maintain an objective, problem-solving posture.
    14. Provide teachers with professional learning for writing PLAAFPS, goals and accommodations.
    15. Stay up-to-date professionally through the selection of quality professional learning opportunities for personal growth.
    16. Participate as an effective team member who contributes to district, department, and content goals.
    17. Demonstrates proficient levels of technology applications.
    18. Utilize time wisely for effective management of job responsibilities.
    19. Maintain punctuality in daily work times, appointments, and meetings.
    20. Meet task completion deadlines established by supervisor.
    21. Maintain friendly customer-service-driven interactions with all stakeholders, students, teachers, administrators, and co-workers.
    22. Work cooperatively with co-workers and supervisors to ensure that the goals of the school/department are met.
    23. Maintain a positive and professional tone in all communication (i.e. email, written, and verbal).
    24. Perform job duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Salary                                 

  • $62,567 for Beginning teacher with "0" years experience, based on LPISD Compensation Plan and 11-Duty Months
  • Salary based on experience
  • $1,000 Master's Degree addenda
  • Additional $1,000 Doctorate Degree addenda

The District contributes $400/month to the cost of employee only health insurance, which is $175/month greater than the state required amount of $225/month
