Position: Teacher, Special Education - Behavior Support Program (BSP)

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university
  • Valid Texas Teacher's Certificate - Elementary Core and Special Education EC-12 
  • Alternative Certification Program applicants must have passed content exam(s) to be eligible for employment

Job Description:

  • Provide students with appropriate learning activities, structure and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, physical, social and emotional growth
  • Prepare lessons that reflect strategies designed specifically for the academic, social and behavioral needs of students
  • Work cooperatively with general education teachers to adjust behavioral approaches as needed for students to access the curriculum
  • Provide direct instruction to support self-discipline and transition to the general education classroom with support from the Behavior Support Program teacher or paraprofessional
  • Maintain open communication with campus administrators and district special programs staff
  • Other duties required by campus/district supervisors reflective of district policies and procedures
  • Conduct assessment of students to determine skill level for instructional activities.

Salary:                                  

  • $60,000 for beginning teacher with "0" years experience 
  • $1,000 Master's Degree addenda
  • Additional $1,000 Doctorate Degree addenda
  • $3,000 Stipend - BSP Teacher

Pay Grade: Certified Instructional, 10 Duty Months

ACP Candidates must attach the program acceptance letter with current eligibility status.

 

The District contributes $400/month to the cost of employee only health insurance, which is $175/month greater than the state required amount of $225/month.

 

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

  • Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
  • Motion: Frequent walking
  • Lifting: Frequent light lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling (less than 15 pounds); occasional lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling (up to 50 pounds)
  • Environment: Work inside and outside, regular exposure to noise and the elements; CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) certified or willing to obtain; ability to support students in need of CPI intervention strategies, as needed
  • Mental Demands: Maintain control under stress
