Position: General Maintenance Technician

 

Primary Purpose: 

Assist in designing, planning, constructing, installing and repair of all structural and interior building systems.

 

Education/Certification:

• GED/High School Diploma (preferred)
• Valid Texas Driver’s License; must be insurable by district's insurance carrier
• Completion of apprenticeship or technical school preferred
• Journeyman carpenter's license preferred

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

• Ability to read and comprehend design drawings
• Ability to operate all types of woodworking machinery
• Ability to operate all types of metal welding and burning tools and equipment preferred
• Ability to transform plans into a completed product

 

Experience:

Four years’ experience in structural maintenance field preferred

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

1. Construct, maintain and repair walls, flooring, ceiling and other construction.

2. Maintain and repair doors, windows and screens.

3. Apply protective coating, such as primer and intermediate and finished coats, to prepared surfaces.

4. Erect framework by placing, joining and fastening sills, joists, subfloors, studs, rafters and wall sheathing using hardware and fastening devices.

5. Erect steps and decks.

6. Alter building by installing or removing partitions.

7. Install flooring, ceiling and other coverings using gypsum board, paneling, fiberboard and acoustical tile and other materials.

8. Install glass in sashes and doors.

9. Construct and install forms on small scale for construction such as concrete slabs.

10. Install anchors, reinforcement steel and lintels (such as bare, stirrups and wire mesh).

11. Place concrete in forms.

12. Maintain carpentry tools.

13. Install, repair, replace and adjust items of building hardware such as hinges, hasps, locks, hydraulic door openers and closers.

14. Repair and replace floor tile, carpet base and ceramic tile.

15. Maintain and repair existing structures as assigned.

16. Maintain a clean, safe and well-organized environment.

17. Perform all other duties as assigned by the General Maintenance Foreman and Director of Maintenance

18. Assist in maintaining playground equipment and motorized bleachers.

Tools/Equipment Used: Small hand tools, power tools, and measuring tools; light truck or van
Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
Motion: Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving
Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis
Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent districtwide travel

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress, ability to communicate effectively (verbal)

 

Other Information:

The district contributes $400/monthly to the cost of "employee-only" health insurance which is $175/monthly greater than the state required amount of $225/monthly.
